How to focus on your wellbeing in 2022

Many of us went back to work this week, and that often comes the pressure of ‘starting the year as you mean to go on’.

Fresh Air Friday graphic - How to make 2022 your yearAs a new Fresh Air Fridays facilitator, I want to share the below advice from the Fresh Air Fridays community to help you look after your wellbeing as you start the new year.

With the new year comes new goals, resolutions and changes. Naturally, we usually think about what we want from a new year before it’s even started, which is fine!

But, making these changes isn’t going to be like flicking a switch, it’s going to take time, commitment and awareness. The point is, don’t pressure yourself to make today perfect, do what feels right for you and if you don’t manage to get every single thing you planned for the whole year done, then that’s absolutely fine, you don’t need to write the whole month off because you didn’t ‘start as you mean to go on’.

Start at the beginning and know that transforming your life is a journey, do whatever feels right for you.

Here are a couple of tips on how you can make 2022 the year you want.

Fill yourself up first

‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’. Filling yourself up first allows you to make positive changes to your life and acknowledge what is working for you and what isn’t. Follow Fresh Air Fridays on LinkedIn or Facebook for some ideas on how you can fill yourself up this year!

Express gratitude

One of the simplest things we now teach, gratitude impacts every aspect of your life. Notice the things you are grateful for in life, the things working for you, and the things you love.

Be present

Being present means fully immersing yourself in the moment, focusing on what’s going on right now instead of dwelling on the past or wondering about the future.

Step out of your comfort zone

Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things is the best way to grow! This isn’t about escaping your reality; it’s about appreciating what you have and knowing when to take the risk.

Go easy on yourself

Growing isn’t an overnight process, it takes time and commitment. It’s important to not compare our own progress to others and make sure we’re doing what feels right for us – this will look different for everyone!
